The Green Grocer

The Green Grocer

Jaspers organic coffee

If you're an organic freak, this place will suit you right to the core. Everything on the menu is more than 70% organic. It was also quite nice to be surrounded by the organic vegetables, although I'm not sure if I'd be so appreciative if someone was actually doing their weekly shopping next to me.

The coffee seemed burnt. Their organic hot chocolate was kinda weird.

The Grocer’s Breakfast (originally called the Big Breakfast but was suitably changed after many people complained their portions shrank) consisted of a herb and fetta pancake, with spinach, tomato, a mushroom, a strip of bacon and a poached egg piled on top, with a wedge of ripe avocado and a hash brown beside, and basil pesto prettily drizzled around the pancake. Quality food, but too small a portion (note singulars in bold above) considering it costs $16.

Same story with the poached eggs on sesame-encrusted sourdough, add avocado, mushrooms & sausage.

A little tray containing what I thought might be a bill was placed on the table. But it wasn’t how much they wanted me to pay at the register and vacate the seat for other customers waiting, it was simply the waitress’ order slip with no prices added. Pretty rude – I thought only restaurants in Chinatown did that…
