My Dog Café
Station Pier, Port Melbourne, VIC
Best Dog-friendly venue
The place is only open during the warmer months and don't go when it's raining cats & dogs, 'cos it's outdoors near the Spirit of Tasmania (pretty hard to find).
Pretty limited menu for the human diners, and let's just say I'd rather take away fish & chips from D'Lish Fish in the future. The eggs in the Eggs Benedict ($14) were runny, the hollandaise cold and disgusting. The ham a little smelly (read: off). The scrambled eggs came with stale smoked salmon, dill mascarpone, sourdough and rocket.
But it's breaky heaven for the pampered pooches. They choose what they like from the doggie menus at doggie heights, have a drink from the dog bowls, socialise with other 4 legged friends, or if there's nobody around, admire the huge Westie fountain. They can lounge on the beanbags beside the padded wooden human seats while they wait for their Puppy-cinos (made from warm milk and carob) and main course - Pav ordered veal bolognaise but there were other gourmet 'specials of the day' like lamb shanks, Osco Bucco beef, etc. Beware though, it's served on a plastic plate so your $6 spent may end up on the floor with your pooch frantically licking and pushing the plate off the platform.
