Café Notturno

Café Notturno
179 Lygon Street, Carlton, VIC

Established in 1978, the original owner wanted to create a venue that was unique to Melbourne - a large Italian-style cafe that never closed, which is how the name “Notturno” (meaning nocturnal in Italian) came to be. Today the hours aren't quite so long (closes at 12 midnight or 1.30am on weekends), but with pizzas, pastas, salads, coffee, cake and even fancy cocktails on the menu, it's a great place to catch up with your mates… hence the slogan "Meet you at Notties" and as their logo states "Where friends meet".
It offers an all-day, all-night breakfast menu. I tried their Queens Breakfast - Smoked salmon, poached eggs, spinach, tomato with hollandaise sauce on crusty vienna. The salmon wasn't the freshest, and the poached eggs looked and tasted like they were from a machine. Overall satisfactory, but that's taking into considering the very reasonable price (less than $13).

There's also the usual Eggs Benedict, Muesli, Raisin Toast, Super Breakfast (the lot) and Pancakes.
