Genovese coffee

Part of Dog's Bar next door, Lo Spuntino café was refurbished & reopened as Spuntino end 2005. It remains low key, with friendly waitresses & a stream of regular customers (some with huge dogs as there's tables on the pavement, as well as those in the dark indoors and the veranda with funky looking seats).

Breakfast is served until 3pm and the menu consists of Traditional Spanish Omelette ($12.50) with onion, potato, olives, peppers & chorizo – all the items I don’t like, poached seasonal fruit & vanilla mascarpone on toasted croissant ($7.50), and pancakes ($12.50) amongst others.

We ordered the Spuntino Big Breakfast ($13.90) – consisting of a choice of eggs on sourdough with chef’s choice of 5 half sides. Luckily the sides were not the ones I didn’t eat. Chipolata, wilted baby spinach, roasted tomatoes, thyme & garlic roasted mushrooms, smoked bacon. All really tiny serves, and only the mushrooms were nice.

The poached eggs on olive Turkish bread ($13.90) was deceiving. It was bread with an olive spread, not olives baked in the bread. It came with spinach & gypsy ham, topped with hollandaise. Not my type of dish that’s for sure.
