Woodstock Espresso Bar

Woodstock Espresso Bar
Shop 1, 1150 High St, Armadale, VIC

The venue sits on a corner with some street-side tables, some inside tables, and some upstairs tables (in a sort-of roof-top deck area). All this right in the middle of a buzzing shopping district.

At lunch there are salads e.g. smoked salmon with asparagus, capers and dill crème, or tuna with semi-dried tomatoes and a basil mayo. There are ciabattas or something more substantial like fish and chips. At night, Woodstock becomes a bar and serves some tapas-style bar snacks e.g. chicken skewers, marinated meatballs, dips or antipasto platters.

The hollandaise on the Eggs Benedict ($17) was on the verge of being too sour but thankfully didn't cross that fine line. Nicely poached eggs and average ham on decent muffins. I added a hash brown side ($4) thinking of a golden brown roesti and was disappointed to find a greasy frozen one instead.

The Baked Spanish Eggs with chorizo, tomato, onion and mushroom, served with parmesan and charred wheatmeal toast ($16) was really tasty and full of ingredients. Perfect for a winter's morning. So I guess the price was justified, at least a lot more than the Eggs Benedict/sole flat hash brown!

The Hot Chocolate ($4.50) was also way too expensive for the hot milk with a design of chocolate sauce lining the inside walls of a tall glass! There were other interesting items on the menu e.g. Pumpkin poached eggs - 2 poached eggs, honey roasted pumpkin, spinach and fetta on wheatmeal toast with a sun dried tomato dressing ($18). But at those prices, I doubt I would be going back anytime soon.
