No coffee
An outdoor takeaway kiosk that specialises in crepes only. Coffee? Get it from Federal Coffee Palace next door. I've tried it there a few times and it's not bad (Genovese hardly goes wrong) - sure beats the ones we had from the famous Brother Baba Budan (maybe they were just having a really bad day?)
While being made on the hot plate, fragrant aromas that seem to be non-existent in the truly French creperies like Breizoz & Le Triskel hit me. Mmmm. The all-day breakfast menu has different combinations of free range egg, jarlsberg cheese, bacon, mushrooms, spinach, smoked salmon, etc. I stare at the menu for ages before deciding on the free range egg, jarlsberg cheese and bacon ($8.90). The crepe was beautifully crisp, but a little thick and doughy =(
The ingredients are surprisingly fresh for such a tiny stand. Desserts range from lemon and sugar ($5.90), poached pear and custard ($6.90), stewed apple, cinnamon and organic yoghurt ($7.50) to banana, ricotta, almonds and maple syrup ($8.50).The lunch menu has more interesting flavours: ripe roma tomato, basil and jarlsberg ($7.50), swiss brown mushroom, thyme, spinach and 3 cheeses ($9.50). On another occasion I take away the ham, brie and grilled asparagus ($8.90) and it was yummy. Salt flakes made the asparagus tasty and the brie gave a creamy finish to the crepe.
