Di Lorenzo coffee

Yet another place for fromage fans... Now open in the new Fresh Food Precinct at Chadstone Shopping Centre is the largest Jones the grocer cheese room, housing over 120 international and local artisan cheeses. There's also an extensive deli and charcuterie counter, complimented by the exclusive range of Australian and imported gourmet foods.

There were plenty of seats inside the café as well as outside in the alfresco dining area, which was a surprise. Service staff were generally very pleasant, attentive and keen to help. You could tell the coffee, while bitter, was made by an excellent barista. The breakfast menu changes depending on what is in season.

Lunch ranges from baguettes, house made pies and salads to a wagyu burger served with olive oil fries. The website advertises daily tarts, macaroons and cakes, but I must have been blinded by all the other goodies on offer to notice any.

I had the Jones traditional English breakfast ($13) - 2 perfectly poached eggs with salt flakes sat on top of beautifully toasted sourdough, surrounded by tiny bits of mushrooms sautéed with flat leaf parsley (not the tastiest). The pancetta wrapped chipolatas were delicious, as were the slow roasted tomato. I didn’t try the black pudding.
The Spanish Eggs ‘en cocotte’ ($9.50), baked with baby spinach, smoked bacon and jones tomato relish was pretty good too, except the eggs were way overcooked... Then again most baked eggs are. Oh and the ground pepper from the Maxwell & Williams grinders on the table was fabulous too!
