Madame SouSou

Madame SouSou
231 Brunswick Street, Fitzroy, VIC
Genovese Coffee
Best 'the lot' & crepes

Update (again):
This has moved to 5 beans! Again, we ordered the same combination of 1 coffee, 1 thick European hot chocolate (above), 1 savoury and 1 sweet.

The SouSou Breakfast has gone up in price ($18) - damn inflation! It' still so good though, paprika sausages, hash fritters and all...

The crepes are back, slightly different from the last time, but better in my opinion. It's now with strawberry compote and fresh ricotta. No orange liquor but compared to the last photo, has shrunk in size too =(

Update:
There are no more crepes! =( They were replaced with either Waffles with maple cream and honeycomb or Waffles with Belgian Chocolate sauce and cream ($17). We ordered the former which tasted very fragrant, with excellent maple cream unfortunately they were Belgian waffles, so were quite solid and tough, unlike the light and crisp English waffles.

The hash brown in the Sousou breakfast also changed to a mix of zucchini? and potato mash, breaded before being fried. Still tasty though!

I was amazed at how good the Smoked salmon corn fritters were... the best corn fritters I've tried by far. the only one I would order again in fact...

The venue is an extremely tres chic, sexy, French style brasserie - posh without being stuffy. In the morning, it feels decidedly cafe-like before dressing up for dinner. There's thick European hot chocolate on the blackboard too, for a very reasonable price.

Again, we did the one savoury, one sweet option and shared them.

The SouSou breakfast ($17) had perfectly poached eggs, double-smoked bacon, roasted tomato, sausages, sourdough toasted just right, tasty mushrooms, and who could forget the golden, delicious home-made hash brown. The best all round breakfast I've had.

The strawberry crepes had a little orange liquor to it & just as exceptional.

It's so seldom I'd order the exact same dishes when I go back, but I just had to when I brought my family there. Except this time, we changed the poached to scrambled eggs. There was still no let down with the buttery scrambled eggs.

Since we were there late, they were changing over to the lunch menu and we took the opportunity to order the veal. Superbly scrumptious and so tender...

Now I have to go there for dinner, and try the organic pork belly with crackling, apple glaze and semolina dumplings.

Being French, there's also a selection of croissants, and a pear, fig and walnut "French" toast, with cinnamon mascarpone and clover honey. Perhaps giving Madame Sousou a rating of 4 beans is a bad idea because it will raise peoples' expectations should they decide to go. But my 2 experiences were truly sensational! It's more on the pricey side, but we felt it was excellent value for money.
