Update (again):

On the last update, this cafe moved from 4 to 5 beans. This update, the status has moved to Best in Melbourne. Nothing much to add that I haven't already said... Excellent food yet again!

Update:
This time we brought a whole lot of people here. We called in advance to make a booking for 8, only to be told they don't do reservations but they will try their best. We rock up slightly later than planned and the guys have kept the long table in the middle room free for us! Talk about great service...
Amongst the usuals ordered, there were 2 specials: Eggs Benedict with Sweet Chilli Hollandaise ($13.50) and Poached eggs on sourdought served with asparagus, smoked ocean trout and a lemon/caper mayo ($15). Both were delicious but the capsicum hollandaise eggs benedict and the salmon eggs below were better respectively.
Someone ordered the Vegetarian ($13) - 2 eggs on toast with fresh avocado, grilled zucchini, fresh baby spinach finished with roasted tomato relish. Wow, for once not a vegetarian dish with things I don't eat inside e.g. capsicum. I was told the mushrooms were to die for!

The food once again proved have (good) quality control and the excellent service this trip made me up the rating to the coveted 5 beans! Best in Melbourne so far =)

The minute you walk into the café, the friendly owners and staff welcome you and the cosy venue complete with a lounge area and a long communal bench make you feel at home. The coffee (complete with fern latte art) was wonderful - no surprise there. What was shocking was the variety of yummy food options, especially for such a tight kitchen space.

We scored a table right in front of the lovely cupcakes and sweet slices on display. Thankfully we managed to resist ordering them ‘cos the breakies were HUGE. I had the Salmon Eggs ($13.50). 2 poached eggs on toast (I chose Turkish instead of Sourdough) spread with their own pesto mayonnaise, with baby spinach and lots of atlantic salmon (it was folded up in the picture). A unique dish, wonderfully executed, with the freshest ingredients possible at such a reasonable price. I was in love with this place already.

He had Eggs ‘the lot’ ($14.50) – 2 poached eggs served with pesto, honey smoked leg ham, fresh tomato, swiss cheese and spinach. Lovely too, but not as amazing as the Salmon Eggs.

When I brought my family here, it was a late Saturday morning, and it was packed. While waiting for a table we eyed the other patrons’ Dutch fruit loaf ($11), with sweet mascarpone and vanilla peach compote. The Muesli was served in a glass and layered so prettily I almost ordered it. But we all know Muesli is too healthy for me…

We ended up sitting at the serene courtyard at the back. Food took longer than last time to come out. Luckily there were tonnes of food magazines to keep me entertained.

There are usually 4-5 daily specials. The Capsicum Eggs Benedict was served on pide, not muffins. My mum added mushrooms and requested for the capsicum hollandaise to be put separately for my sake (I hate capsicum). We were all blown away by the quality. The hollandaise was excellent, and even though you could taste the capsicum in it, it was delicious.

My brother ordered Eggs ‘the lot’, added mushrooms. I still didn’t appreciate it as much as the Salmon Eggs, but he (who doesn’t eat salmon) raved on about it. Even said it was better than Madame SouSou. Bold statement…

There's also a lunch menu with more substantial food. The beef wrap was a little dry and nowhere as special as the breakfast dishes.

When we went back the 3rd time, we sat at the same table as the 1st time, and thankfully they weren’t too busy. Service and food were consistently good. The mocha had lots of chocolate to make my day start off well, and the power juice of the week ($5) was apple, beetroot, orange & lemon. Weary of the beetroot, the waiter assured you can’t really taste it, and if we didn’t like it, the waiter would finish it for us. It really was refreshingly good.

I had the Salmon Eggs again – ordered the full size again although I told myself to order the half serve ($8.50) last time. It was too delicious to resist. The special today was Eggs Benedict with a wholegrain mustard and hollandaise ($12.50). Although the mustard was a little too strong for me, it was superb – but we didn’t expect anything less from Inkr7.
